Any Dale began as a family farm, known forbreeding New Forest ponies. That legacy still lives on in equine bloodlinesrecognized across Europe. During World War II, British soldiers stationednearby struggled to pronounce the farm owner’s name “Annie van Dalen”. Theycalled it “Any Dale”, and the name stuck.

Over time, Any Dale became a respectedriding school. Today, Any Dale is a place where children and adults learn toride. Horse owners find top-tier care. Discipline, attention, and excellence arepart of everyday life — values that resonate deeply with ILIAS.

But it’s more than a local institution. AnyDale plays a unique role in Dutch defense. The team trains ceremonial ridersfor Prinsjesdag, the Netherlands’ Budget Day. On that day a mountedmilitary honor guard escorts the King to the Parliament. The school alsoprepares military personnel for demanding equestrian exams. It supportstraining exercises across Dutch and international forces. Military personnelcome from across the armed forces – land, air, and sea. Yet, on horseback,those distinctions fade. They ride as one. The horse becomes the common ground.Learning to ride builds connection. It gives them a shared focus, a jointpurpose - no matter which military domain they’re from.

At the heart of this vision is Arjende Jong. With a distinguished military background and deep expertise inequestrian training, Arjen brings a rare skill set to Any Dale. His experienceincludes operating in environments where mobility on horseback was not justsymbolic but essential. Places where vehicles couldn’t go. Where guiding ahorse with precision under pressure made a real difference. Drawing from this,he wants to extend Any Dale’s role to serve a wider defense purpose. His goalis to prepare military personnel not only for ceremonial duties but also toride and care for horses with the same discipline and operational readinessthey apply in service. Ultimately, Arjen’s ambition is for Any Dale to become theofficial training center for the Ministry of Defense.
