A Collaboration That Built a Unified, Future Ready Air Force

The Chilean Air Force, known in Spanish as “Fuerza Aérea de Chile” or FACh has modernized continuously throughout its history, but one decision has proven especially pivotal. In 2006, FACh partnered with ILIAS—a collaboration that, twenty years later, remains central to how the Air Force manages its more than 200 aircraft.

The partnership began when FACh sought a modern logistics system to support its expanding F‑16 fleet. After seeing Belgium’s use of ILIAS, the choice was immediate. Adopting the system wasn’t effortless, but within two years it became embedded in FACh’s culture and recognized for the concrete benefits it delivered.

ILIAS started as the backbone for FACh’s F16 fleet—then it scaled into a force wide standard. Today it runs across the entire aircraft inventory: combat, transport, training, and helicopter fleets—uniting maintenance, supply, and operational readiness in one system of record. And it doesn’t stop in the hangar. From ground radars and ground-to-air weapon systems to uniforms, fuel, parachutes, facilities, and the training pipelines for pilots and technicians, ILIAS delivers the end-to-end control and visibility FACh needs to keep every mission critical asset ready, traceable, and accountable.

“We all know that logistics can be complex in any organization—especially in a defense institution. That’s why the Chilean Air Force has always worked to strengthen this area and improve the way we support our fleet. Back in 2006, this effort reached an important milestone, when ILIAS became our main logistics support platform. Since then, its contribution has been truly valuable. The organization, visibility, and overall support made ILIAS a trusted partner for our Air Force.  As we mark 20 years working together, we’d like to say thank you. We truly look forward to continuing this journey of collaboration together.” says Max Cárcamo, Major General (AD) Head of Development and Project, FACh.

As the partnership enters its third decade, the focus turns into empowering personnel on the ground—real-time updates via tablets, sensor-driven automation, and tighter alignment between operations and logistics. Together, FACh and ILIAS continue refining the tools and processes that will shape their next chapter.

“After 20 years, ILIAS is no longer ‘an ambition’—it’s a proven capability, a part of daily operations across FACh. Yet its potential is not yet fully unlocked. Commanders and technicians continue to develop new opportunities provided by the ILIAS platform – building on the stable foundation that is created over the past 20 years.
Looking ahead, artificial intelligence is taking ILIAS from managing what is happening today to anticipating what will happen tomorrow—forecasting future costs, enabling predictive maintenance, accelerating process improvement, and integrating our workflows end-to-end. That includes tracking FACh pilots from their initial training through their full operational deployment, integrating future weapon systems as they come operational, and simplifying logistics execution so it becomes faster, more economical, and delivers total, immediate visibility.” states Leopoldo Porras, Vice President Latin America ILIAS Solutions, involved in the partnership from the beginning at the Logistics Command FACh.
